Charlie Crist Supports Counting Illegals in 2010 Census, Marco Rubio Does Not

Governor Crist is blasting his Senate Primary opponent Marco Rubio for his position of being against counting illegal immigrants in next year’s census. Charlie, listen to what you are saying- these are “I L L E G A L” immigrants for goodness sakes! Let me say it again, ‘ I L L E G A L’ immigrants!
This shouldn’t be too much of a shock to us since the good Governor supported the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill proposed several years ago. We all remember that the bill was shot down in a bi-partisan manner by the overwhelming majority of the electorate. Today our friends at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported Charlie’s statement on the matter: “Florida deserves to have her fair share and I think that making sure that we count every single Floridian is vitally important. That’s why I went to that school yesterday in North Miami. It is important. It’s important to our state. It’s important to our people. The notion that you wouldn’t want to accept federal funding to make a political statement is absurd.”
The Crist campaign just responded to my request for a quote regarding the Governor’s statement. Their response in verbatim: “I think we are going to let this stand for itself.”
To be fair, I contacted the Rubio campaign for a response to the Governor’s attack and I received the quote from the head honcho himself, Marco Rubio- “ To use illegal immigrants in a census count for purposes of gaining Congressional seats and funding, dilutes the voting rights of citizens and encourages states to have as many illegal immigrants as possible”.
This is absolutely true! If we allow illegal immigrants to be counted in the census, new Congressional districts will be drawn up to meet those increased numbers, in those particular areas around the country. What is next, letting these same illegal immigrants vote in our elections?
To state that everyone needs to be counted so that the state receives her fair share is very troubling. In other words, Crist is telling us to disregard that fact that these people broke federal law by coming here illegally so that we can get a couple of more bucks? So we are being asked to condone this criminal act?
Sorry Charlie, but you are running on the wrong side of this issue. Has someone informed you that this is a Republican Primary that you’re running in?
